Catherine Ford, born in Bloomsbury (London), was raised by the mother, her grandmother and godparents. Her father abandoned her family. While she was a small girl, she struggled with an obsessional disorder and suffered from anxiety because of the word"association. Ford was intrigued by the field of acting during her teenage years and she joined National Youth Theatre. She gained admission to the Sylvia Young Theatre School, but after just a few days, decided that she wasn't a good fit there. Ford later applied for a spot at the Central School of Speech and Drama and was accepted on her 4th attempt. Shaun Dingwall would play Pete Tyler, a regular character on Doctor Who. Ford could graduate in 1993. She already had her TV debut in the 1992 episode Surgical Spirit. She adopted the name Catherine Tate. Tate was featured in such TV shows such like The Bill, Men Behaving Badly as well as London Burning. In addition to her regular theatre work, Tate joined with the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2000-2001. Tate became famous for her stand-up comedies, which were added to Tate's selection in the year 1996.
